Grade 8 Poetic Language

 2006-2007

 

 

Grade eight imagined eagles and wrote  about the images, light, sounds, questions, feelings.  Then we turned our partially poetic language into poetic language.

Ordinary to Poetic
ordinary poetic
a big bald eagle soaring over the Columbia River  
golden eagle swoops down to snatch a fish out of the river  
not sunny but still bright from all the snow  
sunrise peeking over the horizon  glorious lamp of heaven peeked over the horizon
moonlight shining bright  
sun goes down and the sky was the prettiest it has ever been; some stars start to appear; moon showing its pretty bright face  
pink sky; only the eagle's shadow shows on the tree  
  the wind playing a wooden flute in the trees
the sound of the river flowing down to the waterfall and birds singing bear growling the eagle crowing for its prey

 The eagle flying

sun so bright

 

sweet music of the eagle high above  
eagles are making a sound like someone's  blowing a whistle  
Why does everything have to have snow?  
Why was the female hunting and not the male?  
Why does the world have such beautiful colors?  
having the freedom to be free and wild and fun sometimes want to make a laugh and cry  
warmth of the sun touching your skin on a cold spring morning  
pretty bright faces pretty bright faces  
golden eagle looking over the blue flats of the lake
